Things 2 Do in London: a trip to Milton Keynes!

I was hoping when i published this post that i would be able to say “This is the City that is going to host the 2018 World Cup in the UK”… Alas the FIFA chose Russia over the UK… who would want to go to Russia instead of Milton Keynes, UK!?! … so now all i can say is this is where the World Cup could have taken place.

Milton Keynes is only half an hour away from London by train. It is a new city built with a very modern design unlike other British cities. All glass and steel and even the architecture of the streets and side walks are different.

The most famous landmark of Milton Keynes is the Xscape: The biggest indoor skying snow slope! You can ski or learn how to ski, climb an indoor mountain, try their free fall over a fan thing that i would never try, play bowling, watch a movie, or dine in any of the restaurants dotting the place. The place is amazing and you could lose a whole day cooped inside running from one activity to the other.

Many Q8y families own houses in Milton Keynes and many other Q8ys come in the Summer to stay for a weekend or a week or more. Jurys Inn is the most popular -and trendiest- hotel in MK probably because of it’s ideal location… thehub:mk!

What is thehub:mk !? It’s my FAVOURITE place to dine in Milton Keynes! A collection of four uber modern buildings arranged around a small piazza style fountain with restaurants and cafes around.

You could grab a coffee and sit outside, watch passers by and people playing in the fountain… the place is so relaxed and happy and noiseless… the perfect place to be especially when it’s night time… all the lights make the hub more colourful 😀

Milton Keynes has also one huge indoors mall called thecenter:mk where you can find all the main major shops of the high street plus several department stores: John Lewis, Debenhams, House of Fraser, and M&S. Be it rain or sunshine, snow or fog, you can always shop inside without so much a glance at the weather. In front of John Lewis there is a big exhibition area and every year around Christmas time they put up a little Xmas Funfair and mini Frankfurt style market with a Santas grotto, a merry go round, and lots of decorations! It’s so beautiful!

If you haven’t been to Milton Keynes before you must visit for a day or a weekend the next time you are in London. A perfect day would be morning shopping in thecenter:mk followed by a visit for fun in the Xscape and dinner at thehub:mk before taking a 30 minutes train back to London… so bad they didn’t win the 2018 World Cup… 7safa they chose Russia over the UK 😦

  1. MK is probably the last place I would consider visiting. I understand what attracts you to it, and the convenience that many Kuwaitis stay there over the summer, but it’s not at all what England/London are about…

It depends really on how you like to spend your time and what your definition of a visit to England is. MK is quite similar yet very different from London and other cities in the UK…

I LOVE MILTON KEYNES!! We go there every year and I never heard of the hub!! omg, I have to check it out this summer! i miss it so much ;p
I’ve actually never been there during winter! My favorite places other than what you mentioned is Campbell park and Willen lake! The first one is a huge park that sometimes holds fun fairs and concerts. The other one is a lake where you can water ski and do so many activities!
