The moment i heard that Jamie Oliver had opened a restaurant in Westfield London i was itching to try it. I have tried his first creation fifteen a few years back and i loved everything about it aside from it’s location -really bad-. To have another Jamie Oliver creation and in Westfield Mall was simply perfect and i couldn’t wait to get on that plane to try it.
The restauant is located at the very end of the restaurant terrace walk away in Westfield mall. A stand alone building with outdoor seating that is perfect for days when the weather was not to be missed.
When you enter the restaurant the reception area is also a little Jamie Oliver shop area selling his books and trademark merchandise.
Gives you something to do if you had to wait a bit for a table.
Surprisingly the restaurant was not very crowded. We were seated next to the window immediately.
The menu is filled with vegetarian options and stuffed pastas and yummy side dishes. It took us quite a while to make our minds up regarding what to order. take a look at it here
We both decided to have limonata to drink. and we decided on “light and healthy” appetizers of Best Humble Green Salad and Funky Chips.
and Humble Green Salad it is. Too humble in fact. not even a cucumber in sight. Oh well we munched on it happily. Our only consolation is that it’s a much healthier option than that selection of Italian bread we were drooling over in the menu -sigh-.
Now those funky chips were somthing! Chips baked with thin slices of garlic and chopped parsley… it was seriously good. The best dish of the day.
The thing is by then the restaurant was almost empty. We waited for our pasta dishes. We waited and waited and waited and WAITED for a really long time. When they came out both of them had grated cheese on top even though we specifically asked not to add any. They had to go back into the kitchen x_X so after a long while we got our main dishes.
My dish was off the specials menu of the day. It was gnocchie e basil tomato cream sauce. It was very good actually but the texture of the gnocchie was a bit too chewy for my taste. I have had better gnocchie before.
Turbo Fusilli Arrabiata for Butootee. It was good but the problem is it was TOO spicy. The spice level was almost unbearable. We had to actually spoon some of my sauce on top of his and mix it to lessen the spice level in order for him to be able to eat it. A very disappointing dish i tell you.
All in all it was a good experience. We would have had dessert but by then we were very frustrated with the slow service and the spicy pasta we just paid and left. Would i try it again? Of course i will. I might however try the Covent Garden one instead. I am definitely going for the bread tin this time and no humble salads 🙂
