10 Reasons Why: I never use those Q8y Words

6b3an ana mali sho’3ol fekom… it’s a free country o ppl barely speak q8y anymore… i am saying this about my self… why i, Danderma, never used/stopped using them…

1- “Y36eek/ch el 3afiyaa“… i feel like im in bab il 7ara greeting el3aqeed… my badeel oho Gawach/Gawak Allah… athrab

2- “Amana“… shamantah ballah? y3ni you want me to do something for you o you say amana laish amana? amanat shino ?

3- “7arakat“… as in waaay 7arakaaat… acrobat b3d shraykom? Wayed thaqelat 6ena il kelma…

4-“Falla“…  reminds me of kilmat tefelle… as in china wa7ed yefalle qamel o 9eban…

5- “7aqeeer”… used increasingly as a compliment now adays! Ah in case you haven’t noticed… tra this is a masaba, always was, forever will be…

6- “Afaaa” … i strongly believe inha a mans word. Until this day mako wala bnaya q8ya itgolha s7… o that includes me tra… marra Effaa o marra Afa3 o marra Afee2 o even 3faaa… o namqe6ha madry shloon it9eer… khalna 3la ambeeh o waaay o haw haw abrak 😉

7- “Fedaitich/Fedaitik” shino y3ni fedaitik? who decided that this word is cool and hip? 7leema… tra el kelma 3la our tongue kilish ma tloog o b3dain laish kil kilma wel thaniya waaay fedetich :* o waay fedetich… khalesaw il kalimat??

8- “Mo 9ej“… ok why do you say mooooooooooo? and what the hell does mo 9ej mean? It is meaningless… it is heavy on the tongue… peopel over 18 sound like over grown children saying it… and for some reason it reminds me of the cow mooooo…

9- “Yabeela“… too over used… kil shay yabela yabela… i feel like a 3ef6e guy whenever i try to “use it”

10- i will keep it open for you… which word would you want ppl to stop over using?

Ok this is too funny, but then I thought maybe I shouldn’t laugh so hard cuz I’m guilty of using #1 and #9 but not like every other word. I have to add one that really grates on my nerves the “weeeeeeeeeee weeeeeeee weeeeeeeeeeeee” or the other version “wee weeeeee ga6eeeeeeeee3aaaaaaaaa”. that is SO SO annoying especially in that stupid daloo3a voice that is more fake than the industrial amount of makeup on the face accompanying the voice :/

  24. Posted by x on June 19, 2010 at 11:49 PM

Lol funny…. Fdaytek is in a Emarati word, y3ny afdak, I’m all yours. They use it in Q6ar too in the same way. Makes alot of sense in the UAE and G6ri context but I guess why it wouldn’t in yours, maybe cuz its not a Kwaity word or you don’t understand it.

I’m sure you don’t mean this to be offensive, I’ve been reading your blog for a while now and I don’t think you would mean it in that way but I’m a tiny bit disappointed, It’s not nice or fair, and you could’ve said it in a different way… It such a meaningful and beautiful word in our culture, mb hayen 3alay that I ignore this

shino y3ni fedaitik? who decided that this word is cool and hip? 7leema… tra el kelma 3la our tongue kilish ma tloog o b3dain laish kil kilma wel thaniya waaay fedetich :* o waay fedetich… khalesaw il

I understand that your saying it does make sense in the Kwaiti context, cultures that don’t use this word wont mind the way you put it but please consider that to other people who read your posts it might be hurtful. The shino y3ny fdaitek? part is a bit too harsh w dfsha b9ara7a…

I’m sure you don’t mean it that way and everyone’s entitled to their own opinion but, plzzzz don’t mock what you don’t understand.

    • Posted by danderma on June 20, 2010 at 12:45 AM

why are you offended my dear? ana ma yeb6t 6aree how it’s used in Qatar or Emirates s7? kil society o lohom their own tongue o language o tloog 3lehom… ana ma 3yabt 3la ahal il emirates inhom they use it o mo min ikhte9a9e wala sho’3li ini atdakhal ib their dialect hon

ana ga3da agool 3n ele 3ndena bel q8… laman agol shino y3ni fedaitik inah DO YOU KNOW shino y3ni fedaitik? it is a question for them the users… why are u using it 3araftay

b3dain manti metkhayla shloon they are using it… let me ask u this, how often do u use it in Emirates? la seriously how often?

24 hours? ma3a kil kilma o 3la kil shay o 3la ay shay o 3la atfah il asbab? ma a3teqed… ‘3air ina nass mo 3arfa shino ma3naha o mo rakba 3la our tongue… bs habeen bel kilma… kil kilma wel thaniya literally fedaitich o fedaitich… it is a “cool” word now to use… lakin it is being over used ib shakel moz3ej… ana ma gelt laish u use it its kelma emiratya w3 kalamhom mo 7elo wala ako ib my words anything that implies that. I am sorry you got that feeling but it is not true

i am saying inha il kelma la hee yededa walahee ikhtera3 yedeed o mo layga o stop using it bala ma3na
especially inaa 3ndena koshat dalale3 they tend to inhom yemaq6oon il kalam ib shakel moz3ej…. thats why

  25. Posted by noora on June 20, 2010 at 12:58 AM

ive been hesitant to leave a comment on this particular post, but X delivered my point.
i use the word fedeetich alot, part of our family are from UAE, its not a habba as far as im concerned, it sounds familiar to me!
word habbas are just a q8i trend, most of which are phrase habbas “ay shay”, “mo sij”.
fedeetich is actually a nice word ;/
ya3ni at least it aint a masaba!!

    • Posted by danderma on June 20, 2010 at 1:05 AM

3leech noor… the word is familiar to u… u know what it means exactly right? and u using it alot i am sure ur using it in the right context…

now r u using it instead of thank you? or instead of cute baby? or instead of ma qasartay? and lets say ur using it like that… are u using it all the time? 24 hours? ben kil kilma wel thaniya?

el nass bs ga3da o itgool fedaitich o fedaitich… el3am athona ib moo 9ej ashwa khafaw 3nha el senna they are using fedaitich as the new habba… walaw inah ma3naha 7elo when used in the right context ella inha ekhtarbat min il over usage… you get my point?

i agree 3la at least it’s not a massaba part… kalba is being over used b3d hal ayam :S

      • Posted by noora on June 20, 2010 at 1:14 AM

fe nas mo fahma! as in cute baby fedeetich!!
i have a iraqi friend, no family members, but when she says aro7lich fidwa i understand it well! fidwa afdak fedeetich feda2 il w6n!

plus as i mentioned earlier, kuwaiti youth are very well known for word trends. gabil amana o ay shay o mo soj and apparently fedeetich nowadays.
any word that is overused is a habba o itha il kilma is a nice expression u stop using it cuz they’ll probably respond “NOO3ICH mo sij ;/” !!!
i might have 6awaltha 3alech,just wanned to say that so thanx 🙂

True, I second what noora’s saying, i was hesitant too but it just such a beautiful word in the UAE and Qatar, they way it’s put in this post is insulting at first glance, i still think it cud’ve been said in a different way. I’d understand if you were hating on another word that was rude or not nice even if you don’t understand it.

I think you understand what fdaytk means, it’s a normal arabic word from the verb fda, I think you don’t get how its used. It’s your opinion anyhow and i”ve read enough of your posts to know that you mean no harm, it’s just a beautiful word and we doooo use it that often, such a beautiful word why not ;p

      thanx 😉

      • Posted by danderma on June 21, 2010 at 9:17 AM

True i know exactly what it means… we have an old q8y song “hela ya romana…” that goes in one verse ‘o ibro7ee afdeeha’ o kanat y3ni hatha the strongest expression of love…

and thank you for understanding that i mean no harm… it is as u said an Arabic word and used in many variations across the gulf… and when i hear it Emirate ppl ib kil tharaba used i think it’s very layga 3leekom… because when you use it it’s being used in it’s right context therefore you use it properly… unlike ele 3ndena ele using it because it’s habba word to use so you have to insert it every where… just for the sake of saying it… fedaitich became our new greeting… our alternative to thank you and good morning…

by the way the word ze66eya is one of my faaaaaaaaavorite Emiratay words… i should start calling ppl that ymkin it9er habba 😉
o il bishkara b3d etwanis o less degrading to the help ib 9ara7a 😀

  26. ok… i realized that i need to go out more & communicate more bilkuwaiti; there are lots of words & expressions here i that i dont know! lool

  27. waaay waaay ashwa ashwa enich ketbtay fdeetch

    i hate that word , 9ij 9ij i hat it

  28. “MA76”
“GI63A” – as in “a piece”.. used to complement girls

The first two are guy words used frequently by girls and the last one is just rude. Its like girls are a piece of cake or something.. very materialistic.

    • Posted by danderma on June 21, 2010 at 9:19 AM

      Ma76 shino y3ni?! awal marra asm3.ha!

gi63a… ana sam3a a guy using the word Caikaa to describe a beautiful girl :S
very degrading and shallow indeed… i totally agree…

  29. It’s when you go back to the UK and say ”oooof” to your Mother and she looks at you like you’ve lost the plot.

  30. haha we have a wide array of “nirvizing” vocab in bahrain too, but the two kuwaiti words that really get on my nerves are: zoo3’a and umbaayh =)

kudos for such a nice blog! ❤

    • Posted by danderma on June 21, 2010 at 9:21 AM

      Thank you 🙂

la la la mo qabool… give me a bahraini habba word that gets on your nerves :p

      umbaih s7 wayed d3la :p

  31. hahaha afa 3laich 😉
well, we got stuff like: 7add ummah, min galb, maa9addig!!! (= mo 9ij), and another word that really bugs me is 5ulga7sha, a modern, decapitated form of the traditional ta3ajjub muharragi word 5ulcha7la

    =p that’s what’s on my mind right now hehe…

  32. Posted by meem on June 27, 2010 at 5:12 PM
